October Events Around Fort Wayne

what to do in fort wayne october 2015

If we had to pick a month that didn’t wasn’t in the Summer, October would be our favorite. With Fall festivals and Halloween events, there’s no excuse to be bored this month. There’s a variety of activities happening not far from Poplar Ridge Apartments. Here are our picks:

Hit up the farmers market

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy fresh produce year-round. The Fort Wayne Farmers Market proves otherwise. This indoor farmers market, which features items like produce, arts and crafts, is located in the Lincoln Financial Event Center in Parkview Field. The public is welcome from 9 am to 1 pm.

Dinner and a show

The Arena Dinner Theatre is a bit of an institution. Located in the historic West Central neighborhood, the theatre puts on several shows a year. You can catch the comedy “Kitchen Witches” in October. The cost is $35, which includes a catered dinner and a show.

Get up close with animals

If you have kids or are young at heart, you don’t want to miss your last chance of the season to hit up the zoo. The award-winning Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo boosts 40 acres, including animals, rides, and beautifully landscaped grounds. The zoo will close for the season on October 11, so plan accordingly. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm.

Unleash your creative side

Wine and Canvas, located in Covington Plaza, is the place for an afternoon or evening out with friends. Trained instructors provide step-by-step instructions to make your own masterpiece. See their calendar for a list of upcoming paintings.

Get your laugh on

Comedian and SNL writer Brooks Wheelan will take the stage Oct. 15 at Calhoun Street Soups, Salads and Spirits (CS3). Brooks is currently headlining colleges and clubs throughout the US. “Wheelan is himself a name to watch, getting great reviews for his sharp and sometimes dark observations of American life,” according to the London Times.
