Make the most of the warmer Fort Wayne weather while we have it!
You may hear it said that Labor Day marks the official end of summer. And, while the hot days of July are pretty much behind us, there is still plenty of short sleeve weather yet to come, and plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors before white crystals start falling from the sky. So, make some plans and get going!
The “Boys of Summer” aren’t going home yet. The TinCaps have once again made the Midwest League playoffs, so there will be more baseball played in Fort Wayne this month. You can get the info you need by clicking here.
Baseball will soon be over, but football is just getting underway. The University of St Francis, just up the road from Poplar Ridge Apartments, has both a winning tradition, and a great place to watch the game. You can get the info by clicking here. See Big Ten action by traveling to Purdue, or the slightly longer trek to Bloomington and IU. For some, going to a Notre Dame game in South Bend is a religious experience, but only if you can get tickets.
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is one of the top zoos in the nation. It’s a nice place to bring your kids, but you don’t have to bring a kid to enjoy it. Fall is a perfect time to visit, but don’t wait too long. They start moving some of the animals to warmer climates for the winter as the year wears on.
Plan now for a fall foliage trip. That giant peninsula to the north of us, Michigan, is one of the best places in the US to go to see the fall leaf show. While in Michigan, visit Dearborn Village at the Henry Ford Museum near Detroit. Not only is the weather nice, the crowds are gone as well.
Indiana has its fair share of state parks that are also a lot less crowded during the fall. The weather will be perfect for hiking, but maybe too cool for swimming. Try Pokagan and Chain ‘o Lakes to the north. It’s a great time to head south to Brown County as well.
