The cold weather is here and outdoor activities seem to be only a memory. However, there are a number of attractions in and around Fort Wayne that can make winter a season you can look forward to.
1. Ski at Fox Island State park
In Southwest Allen County, Fox Island is a state park that sits on 605 acres of land. During the winter months when there is at least four or more inches of snow, visitors are able to cross country ski over the six miles of trails that wind throughout the park. Skiing equipment is available for rent. If you do not know how to ski yet, check out their ski clinics. The park also provides restrooms and a nature center to provide visitors a place to get out of the cold weather.
2. Go Ice Skating at Headwaters Park
If ice skating is your interest, visit Headwaters Park at Clinton and Superior. They offer a spacious ice rink for skating at affordable prices. Every Wednesday, kids can skate free. The ice rink is open every day throughout the season with extended hours over the Christmas season.
3. Go Sledding
Sledding has been a favorite activity for kids of all ages for years. A variety of parks including Metea County Park, Franke Park, Shoaff Park as well as other parks in the area offer some great hills for sledding when there is enough snow on the ground.
